Q: How do I prepare my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic for winter weather?
I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic. She is 11 years old and has 130,000 miles on her and is headed to a colder climate for the first time after having lived in warm climates and flat land (FL, CA) all her years. She is headed to the mountains and frigid blizzard winters. It's my first time living in cold weather. What add-ons does she need to have to upgrade to winter (and mountain) life?
A: Winter tires, anti freeze mix half and half with water, correct weight engine oil, 5-30 usually. Highest cold cranking amps battery that will fit. Fresh wiper blades, winter windshield washer fluid. I usually go synthetic all the way, ie. Diffs, transfer case, transmission, power steering, engine oil.
Q: Vibrating from floor and weird sound when I start my 93 jeep cherokee?
When I start my 93 Jeep Cherokee the floor seems like vibrate and or shake a little bit and make an odd noise i can't describe. Can someone tell me what this is?
A: I know what it is. It is the bracket from your exhaust to the cross member below it. It broke and now the exhaust rests lightly on the crossmember and it will go away with moving down the road but at stops and at low speeds you can hear and feel it. You can buy an after market exhaust hanger and fix it that way if you dont have a welder to reattach the exh. bracket. The only other thing id look into is your u joints. See if they have play in them and if so there you go. Thats about all that will make a vibration in that model year truck.
Q: How to disable alarm system on a 1995 Jeep Cherokee?
How to disable alarm system on a 1995 Jeep Cherokee?
My boyfriend has a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and is unable to lock the doors because if he does, whenever he comes back to his car to unlock the doors the alarm goes off and is a pain to shut back off.
We're wondering how to completely disable the alarm system (he has no use for it anyway) so he can lock his doors without causing a scene when he wants to get back in to his car.
Thanks so much!
A: Not an uncommon event in this vehicle.
This question comes up ALOT!
The factory system has gone
bad from the sounds of it.
Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:
The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
purple/yellow |-| in the driver kick panel area,
at the black plug.
Once Located, splice into this wire with
a similar guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.
However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.
Q: How much does it cost for a new transmission for a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
I'm planning to change my Jeep Cherokee's old transmission for a new one, well the transmission is still working good, but I can feel it like doesn't have enough power. It's an automatic transmission. Any suggestions? By the way the mileage of my engine is 150052 miles.
I don't know if that have to do with that I think it does. I don't know so much about mechanic cars, that's why I need your help guys...Thanks a lot!!!
A: transmissions really don't give the car its power, the engine is what will give you the power loss problems. but if it is the transmission you could have it rebuilt at aamco. they charge $999 to rebuild your transmission and you get a year warranty. but you may have an electronically controlled transmission, so the cost may be higher.(call them for details)
also, make sure that you (if you have not) change your oil, spark plugs (distributor and plugs possibly as well), air/fuel filters. and add some injector cleaner to your gas tank before you have any work done to the transmission. also, have the transmission flushed. this should cost less than $200 and will increase your cars performance. DO NOT GO TO MIDAS OR OTHER CHAIN MECHANICS. they overcharge 3 times over. go to a local small time mechanic with a good reputation.
Q: Why is my jeep cherokee shaking at high speeds?
When I drive at high speeds around 70 and up for about 10 minutes the whole car will shake very hard and I have to slow down to keep it from shaking, which is dangerous when I am on the highway. Why is my car doing this? It is 1995 jeep cherokee country by the way.
A: This is called Death Wobble. I had it with my old Cherokee and I'm having it now with my Wrangler. With my XJ it was a matter of making sure my tire pressure was equal, then I eventually needed new tires after it started again. I'm pretty sure the problem is the old tires with my TJ.
There are many things that can cause this. JP Magazine did a piece on this and is probably there on their website. Tires out of balance, bent axle, axle bearings, mismatched tires, steering linkage, etc. It most likely isn't your steering dampener since that is not what it is for. A properly set up suspension really doesn't need one in the first place, and if it does fix the wobble you can bet it will come back then that little shock starts to get weak.
Good hunting.
Q: what suv is comparable to the jeep cherokee?
i really love the jeep grand cherokee. i have been looking at used models. i'm pretty flexible as long as its a jeep cherokee.
but i know they are not the most reliable. what's are the jeep cherokee's major flaws? what other suvs are comparable to it?
A: You need to nail down if you're talking about Cherokees or Grand Cherokees. Two entirely different vehicles, one being very reliable the other not.
Q: How to retrieve taillights on 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country?
I recently changed the headlight switch on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country a few hours ago. Now, I have low beam lights but no taillights unless I jiggle the pull switch. Which gets me taillights and no headlights! What am I doing wrong?
A: if it was a junk yard part it's trash, go get a new switch and try again.
Q: what is the difference between jeep cherokee and the jeep grand cherokee?
i have heard that the regular cherokee is better than the jeep grand cherokee and I am just wondering why for buying purposes. THANKS!
A: The regular Cherokee was a mid-size suv. Grand Cherokee is a full size vehicle. Not sure which year but they did away with the regular Cherokee a few years ago and started making the Jeep Liberty ( I think around 2001-2002, but not sure)
Q: What to do for a 1993 Grand Jeep Cherokee that has trouble in reverse gear?
I just purchased a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Limited and it cuts off when put into reverse unless I give it a lot of gas! Also I was told tht the "catalyst convertor" might be bad. Are these two things related and do these things normally go bad in this particular model car?
A: I have no idea what "cuts off" means. Do you mean the engine dies?
Q: How much for addtional miles for a Jeep Cherokee lease?
I am thinking of leaseing a Jeep Grand Cherokee but need to know how much they usually charge for extra miles. Help!
A: Most of the time when doing a lease the standard charge for milage is 15 cents up front per mile Ex> 1000 miles = $150.00 if you pre pay. if you go over the allowed milage then the charge becomes 20 cents per mile.

Q: How do you remove the spare tire carrier in a Jeep Cherokee?
How do you remove the spare tire carrier in the trunk of a 99 Jeep Cherokee?
A: i dont think its really possible because looking at mine, its pretty well in there. i imagine you could cut the wire or something if you had to but i dont see a reson honestly, but to every man his own.
id suggest leaving it on though because if you do go to trade it in, that will get a big mark down on the value of the car cus that is where you keep the spare, at least where most people do.
Q: What mileage should I look for when buying a used Jeep Cherokee?
I am planning on taking a cross-country road trip this summer, and unfortunately the only thing holding me back is lack of a car to do so. I'm thinking about potentially getting a used Jeep Cherokee, but am unsure as to what mileage is good? If I want to get across the country and back, should I go for something that has less than 100,000 miles? I need help! Thanks
A: its not so much the mileage its whether or not it was abused and if it was maintained properly. check for records of oil and transmission fluid changes. i have seen jeep grand Cherokees go 250000 miles and i have seen a jeep Cherokee that is a mail jeep with 350000 miles come in my shop. its all about the maintenance. foreign cars preach it domestics dont unfortunately
