Q: What model years of the jeep grand cherokee have axles that are interchangable with the 98 model GC?
Hey all. I have a 98 jeep grand cherokee 5.2 and I was wondering which other model year GCs front and rear axles will fit in it. Thanks in advance.
A: Depends on what Dana diff model you have. You have to go with the same model, like 30 to 30 35 to 35
9.25 to 9.25. Posi to Posi, Non posi to non posi. And as far as the year, if memory servs I think its 96 to 2001
Q: How many mpg does 1998 jeep grand cherokee laredo has?
I bought a 1998 jeep grand cherokee laredo and was wondering how many mpg it has. I forgot to ask the person I bought it from. But any was just wondering, it's bothering me that I don't know.
A: If it's a 6cyl it's about 18mpg overall. If it's a V8 it's about 16mpg overall. I have a V8 and I get about 19mpg overall because I know how to drive efficiently.
Q: 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Silver- How to make it look good?
I am thinking of purchasing a 98 jeep grand cherokee limited in the silver color. I think that silver is a bit boring but the car is just too awesome to pass up. What can I do to spice it up a bit? Thanks.
A: Chrome accents, car wax
Q: Can someone explain the difference between a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x2 and a 4x4?
I'm looking into buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee but I don't understand the difference between the 4x2 and the 4x4. Does the 4x2 only have 2-wheel drive? Is 4 wheel drive optional? How about the 4x4 - does this have 4 wheel drive running all the time or can you switch back and forth between 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive to conserve on gas?
A: the 4x2 jeep grand cherokee will have a solid axle up front(no front differential), no transfer case, and no shift handle for 4x4 operations.
4x4 grand cherokee is exactly that. it is 4 wheel drive and will have a transfer case shift lever.
the full time all wheel drive ( grand cherokee limited v-8 as an example) has no 2 wheel drive
selection available. just high, neutral, and low range. in part time cases you run in 2 wheel drive mode until you need 4 wheel drive. the advantage to this is better fuel economy. in my case i own a 94 grand cherokee limited 4x4 and it is a full time all wheel drive system and the 318 V-8. fuel economy is about 18 mpg for my jeep.
Q: How do you install a motor blower in a 94 jeep grand cherokee?
So I have a 94 jeep grand cherokee without a motor blower. I already have the part and I was wondering if it was something I could install on my own without going to a shop. I am looking for instructions on where the blower is located and how to replace it.
A: go to auto parts store and get a book haynes repair manual.
Q: What other year jeeps Grand Cherokee engines are compatible with a 1995 jeep Grand Cherokee?
I smashed my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and I would like to get another one so that i can re-use the parts from my wrecked jeep. I've been looking for the same year, a 1995 Grand Cherokee, but I'm not having any luck. So I was just wondering if the 1993-1998 models were similar in the engine and parts to my 1995?
BTW the engine's a straight 6, 4.0.
A: 1993-1995 are the same, 1996 -1998 had the OBD II Computer and sensors.
Q: how much could i get for my 1998 jeep grand cherokee lerado from the insurance company?

Q: How to change the radiator on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0L engine, and i wanted to know if anybody can help me with a step by step instructions on how to replace the radiator?
A: Simply open up your Jeep User and Repair Manual and follow the steps as shown. If you do not have the manual you can always order if from the manufacturer. There are too many steps involved in changing the radiator.
Q: What other year Jeep Grand Cherokee seats will fit my 2002?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My drivers side seat broke so I need a new one. I was just wondering what other year Cherokee seats will fit mine. I found a few but none for a 2002.
A: 2000 to 2004 will be the years most like yours but you can go a little older, up to 1999. Just remember, all the seats are not the same, such as the electrical systems may have different switches like heat or no heat and so on and so forth.
What broke? The frame?
If so, a good reupholster shop can take it apart and weld the frame back as good as new for a minimal charge and get you going again.
Good Luck.
Q: What is causing rattle in rear end of '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
'96 Jeep Grand Cherokee has developed a rattle in it's rear end. It's not the exhaust. Seems like I heard that these Cherokees have this problem. Anybody know what causes it, and how to fix it?
Thanks
any info on how to replace rear suspension, upper arm, ball joint on this Cherokee? Maybe online video, or step-by-step tutorial/instruction?
A: I'm not familiar with your suspension but it could be sway bar bushings. I would take it to a garage , have them lift it and take a gander.
Q: What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I am in the market for a used Grand Cherokee 1999-2001 the ones I have been looking at have between 100-130k miles. What questions should I ask and are there any specific things I should look for on the Jeep? Does a laredo have less problems than a limited? Which engine is more reliable and has less problems?
A: Look for something other than a Jeep, like an Acura MDX or a Ford Explorer :-)
In all seriousness though, transmissions in WJ's (99-04 Grand Cherokees in enthusiast designation) go out in that range, as do differentials, transfer cases, and 4.7L H.O. engines. So the inline 6 will be much more reliable, and get slightly better mileage. This rules out the limited, as it comes standard with a 4.7, though not with the H.O. Oh, steering pumps get expensive too after a while, and figure 2 grand for a transfer case, three for a transmission, and you might get away with 1 for the diff. You will need to replace all three before you hit 150k miles - I have owned several of these vehicles, and regardless of how well I took care of them they all hit problems at the same point. Owning a Jeep is all about the adventure - and after the adventure, you might get to drive it some...seriously, mine have all spent over 25% of their service lives in shops, and all cost more than three times the original purchase price in maintenance (and I had Overlands, so that wasn't cheap). When they ran, they were great, but that wasn't often. If you still want one, get all the parts I mentioned inspected, listen for a humming or grinding when coasting as that indicates a bad differential, and listen for a humming when turning as that indicates a bad steering pump and possibly steering cooler. Oh, and one other nasty thing to watch out for - the rear wiper, when it goes, often bends and blows the motor - I have no idea why, but it costs like $250 for the part...
Oh, and my experiences were not all with the same mechanic, one of them I took to a dealer, one to a local chain, and the other to an independent shop. The independent shop was actually the best of the three, but it's hit or miss with them, as Grand Cherokees have weird parts that a lot of mechanics don't know how to work on (like aluminum differentials).
Q: How much to replace a headlight on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I was in a small accident the other day. The right side headlight was damaged. No other damaged occurred. I'm wondering how much it should cost to replace a head light on 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee? I want to know not just the cost of the part but also approx cost of labor. Thanks!
A: you can get the part cheaper at an auto salvage and take it to any repair shop and they will hook you up. The cost of the light and bulb depends on where you get it and the repair shop shouldnt cost more than 50 dollars to put it in for you.
Q: Why is the heating system on my Jeep Grand Cherokee putting out cold air from the right side vents?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Overland and the heating system is putting out cold air from the right side vents. I have been told this repair will require the removal of the dash to access the unit that directs the air flow and will cost over $1,000.00. The vents on the drivers side work perfectly. Is there any way to handle this problem less expensively?
A: I have just recently discovered this problem on our 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. The passenger side is ice cold while the driver side blows out hot air when the heater is engaged. I've been afraid to take it to a dealership. I'm afraid of the cost of fixing it.....Any suggestions?????
Q: How do you change the speakers in my 98 jeep grand cherokee?
I want to change the speakers in my 98 jeep grand cherokee but i don't want to pay for the installation. do you need to take the door panel off or just the speaker cover? if you do need to take off the door panel how do you? and do you need to solder anything or just get the harnesses that clip on to the existing? im getting Infinity Reference 6022i by the way.
A: Yes you do need to take the door panel off. There are a couple of phillips screws, some of them are behind the little caps. 1 of the caps is behind the door handle, take a flat bald screw driver or something to pop it out of the way. Once all the screws are out take the flat blade screw driver and go around the edge of the door and pop the plastic "push-in" rivets out. You are also going to have to peel the the plastic "weather barrier" away from the door. There are a few connections that you have to take off as well, the door lock and windows and I think there is one other but can't remember what it went to..its been awhile since I chaged out my speakers..put the same ones in. THe speakers themselves are held in by 4 phillips screws.
If they have a harnes that clips on to the existing wiring that would be cool, but if you want to save money you could cut the wires to the speaker and then reuse the clip. Just solder the clip to the wires on the new speaker and then you can just clip it into the factory harnes back to the amp, if it had the infinity system already...head unit if not.
Q: How much does a transmission cost for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I just bought a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for $1,600 and I was wondering if it's worth the price I paid since I have to buy a new transmission for it.It's automatic, 4x4, and 6 cylinders. Around how much would a transmission for it cost? And is it worth investing in it? Thanks!
A: I had a 98 ZJ that I sucked quicksand into, and burned up the tranny. I pulled it myself and had it rebuilt for $500. Depending on where you live it would probably be $1000 to $1500 to drop it off and pick it up with a new/rebuilt transmission installed.
A maintained inline 6 4.0 liter Jeep engine will run 250,000 miles.
